Jaya is a spoken-English teacher for Telugu speakers. This page explains exactly what the app collects, why, and what happens to it.

What we collect

• Phone number — your account identity. Login works by SMS one-time code; we never see or store a password.
• Name and learning preferences — the name you want Jaya to call you, your mother tongue, your goal, level, and daily time. Used only to personalise lessons.
• Learning progress — which days and practice milestones you completed, stars, streaks, and short notes from your conversation practice. Stored so your progress survives a lost or changed phone.
• How you use the app — which screens you opened, when a lesson was started or finished, whether the microphone permission was given, and errors that interrupted a class. Recorded against your account and a random id for your device, so we can see where students get stuck and fix it. It never includes the words you practised or any recording of your voice.
• Your Jaya Plus subscription— if you subscribe, Google Play sends us a purchase token and the subscription's state (active, in the introductory period, cancelled, expired) so we can switch Plus on and off and keep a record of each charge. We never receive your card, bank or UPI details; Google Play keeps those. The purchase is labelled with a scrambled (hashed) form of your phone number so that only your account can use it. How long you talked to Jaya each day is also counted on our server, because Plus includes 5 minutes of live conversation a day.

Your voice

During a lesson your speech is streamed live to our AI provider (OpenAI) so Jaya can hear and answer you. Audio is used to hold the conversation and is not stored as recordings by the app — once the session ends, the audio is gone. Only the text of what was practised may be kept as part of your learning progress.

How we measure what works

We need to know which parts of Jaya help and which lose people. This is the only purpose for which anything about you leaves our own systems beyond the providers listed below.

• On our website (not in the app) we load Google Analytics, and only after you accept the notice shown at the bottom of the page. Decline and it does not load.

To stop all of this, delete your account — see below. We do not show advertisements of any kind inside the app or during a lesson.

What we do NOT do

• We never show you advertisements inside the app or during a lesson.
• We never sell your data to anyone.
• We do not follow you around other apps and websites, and we do not build a profile of you for anyone to target.
• The app collects nothing beyond the list above.

Who processes data on our behalf

Four services make the product work, each receiving only what its job needs: OpenAI (live conversation audio), MSG91 (sending the login SMS to your number), Supabase (secure database hosting for the account and progress data above), and Google Play (taking payment for Jaya Plus and telling us whether a subscription is active). One more is involved in measurement only, as described above: Google (Analytics).

Deleting your data

Open the app → Profile → Delete my account. Your account, profile, all learning progress and all of the usage records described above are erased immediately — including the ones your device sent before the account existed — and your phone number is freed. Details: account deletion.
